A $500 Non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a puppy and guarantee a puppy from a specific litter. The balance of the purchase price is not due until the week the puppies turn 8 weeks old. Payment of balance in full MUST be made before pick-up date.
The Deposit is non-refundable. I understand sometimes things come up, which may prevent you from being able to take a puppy home at that time. In this situation we would roll the deposit over to a future litter of your choosing.
Typically I will not accept a deposit before pregnancy is confirmed. There have been some cases in which I have accepted deposits before that time, with the understanding that if the female does not end up pregnant your deposit would be moved to the next litter of your choosing.
The German Shepherd Dog is first, and foremost a working dog above all else. My litters are all bred with a purpose, and because of that I have a lot of interest in my litters for Schutzhund/Protection sport prospects and Service Dog Prospects.
These things require specific temperament characteristics, and structure.
If I have a litter of 6 puppies; 2 people wanting to do Schutzhund, 1 person looking for a service dog prospect, and 3 people looking for active pets. I have to make sure that each puppy, and family, gets exactly what they need. This means from birth to 8 weeks old I am evaluating each puppies temperament, who has the characteristics and drives to excel here, there. Who has the more laid back mild drives to be a happy active family dog, who has the little extra edge to be a protection dog etc.
So yes, the order of deposits per litter come into play, but also what each individual person is looking for as well.
That being said, I don’t allow people (with the exception of established trainers/breeders) to pick their own puppy out of a whole litter. I pick the puppy for them that best suits their needs and goals. If there happens to be more than one puppy that is ideal, at that point I will let the person/family pick between those select few puppies.
A dog is a living, breathing, eating, mischief-having animal. While as a responsible breeder, I do my part in making sure my breeding dogs are genetic health tested (Hips and Elbows must pass OFA or SV) and healthy animals overall (showing no allergies, cancers, skin issues, etc) I cannot ”guarantee” that a puppy or dog will be healthy it’s whole life.
Genetics play a part in long term health, but environment can end up playing an even bigger part.
Do you have hard wood floors? Are you playing frisbee with your 6 Month old puppy? Are you hiking 3000ftrs and making your puppy jump and land and maneuver? Are you feeding an appropriate diet? Are you keeping your growing puppy lean or overweight because you think it’s cute? All of these things play major roles in the development of healthy joints.
While I don’t, and can’t, guarantee that your puppy will never have a joint issue; what I CAN do is encourage you to get your dogs hips and elbows xrayed by 12 months old and evaluated by either OFA prelim, or sent in to the SV in Germany. If it is found that your puppy/dog has severe hip or elbow dysplasia I will provide you with a second puppy from a litter of your choosing, and a time frame of your choosing. I will NOT require the return of your first puppy, as s/he is now a loving member of your family.
Your puppy will leave me with a 7 day Health Certificate from a NC Licensed Veterinarian stating the puppy was tested free and clear of parasites/worms, had his/her first set of vaccinations and presented completely healthy. Your puppy will also receive a Home Again Microchip at the time of the vet appointment.
I will provide you with paperwork as to when the puppy will need his/her booster shots, as well as when to get their rabies shot done.
I send my puppies home with a care package full of toys/treats/bones/collar and leash to make the first couple of nights as easy as possible!
AKC Registration papers are also provided; Puppies sold as active pets will have limited AKC registration, and those sold as working dogs will receive full AKC registration.
If for whatever reason, at ANY point in the dogs life, you decide you are unable to keep the dog or decide you can no longer appropriately care for the dog they MUST be returned to me. Whether divorce, job loss, being overwhelmed, whatever it is, the dog comes back here to me and I will evaluate the dog and rehome appropriately (Or keep myself!) Please, don’t ever be afraid to communicate with me if something isn’t working, of all people I am well aware that life can throw some mean curveballs. So truly, I understand.
Under no circumstances will the dog be turned over to AC or a shelter. I never want that for any of my puppies.
This is not a “business” for me, I breed, show, train and compete because I LOVE it, and I love the German Shepherd Dog.
My puppies are raised with love, and my time and energy. Each litter has had so much thought, so much effort. These animals are very special to me.
Please, stay in touch. Send pictures, funny stories! Ask me questions, no matter what time of day or night. When you take one of my puppies home, you become family to me. I am grateful for everyone who has welcomed one of my puppies into their lives, so please, if you have questions whether it’s after you take your puppy home, or 10 years later, reach out and stay in touch!
